An ultra-modern digital customer experience portal for energy leader Naturgy

CHALLENGES

Naturgy Ireland are experts in energy and energy supply. They supply natural gas, electricity, renewables and energy management services to large energy users in Ireland, Northern Ireland and the UK. Naturgy Ireland is part of the Naturgy Group which is present in more than 28 countries where it serves 18 million supply points. Intense competition in the sector combined with Naturgy’s commitment to service as a differentiator drove the need to create an ultra- modern digital customer experience portal. As part of the solution Naturgy also wanted to leverage their investment in existing technology and work with a partner who could deliver in a tight time frame. Naturgy turned to Microsoft Gold Partner Client Solutions for our technical expertise, our reputation for sound advice and our capacity to deliver on the commercial and calendar aspects of the challenge

APPROACH

As Naturgy has long been a user and supporter of the Microsoft technology stack, the team at Client Solutions proposed that they leverage their investment in Microsoft 365 as it natively provides a great platform for building out and provisioning B2B portals. We worked with Naturgy to architect a solution based on utilising the Office 365 and Azure platform, SharePoint as the core business-to-business (B2B) extranet and secure authentication via Azure Active Directory and SharePoint Groups.

In order for the solution to fulfill the goals set by senior management as a user friendly and data rich self-service portal it needed to have live customer data continuously available. As industry leaders in ground-breaking energy supply options, a key differentiator for Naturgy is the ability to provide customers with dynamic highly flexible offerings tailored to their needs at specific points in time. This means a constant flow of dynamically changing data based on customer consumption patterns and supply contracts. The MyNaturgy portal needed to be able to surface that data securely in a flexible and friendly manner which would allow customer analysts and report creators to analyse and interpret that data in ways most useful to them with the least amount of manual intervention by Naturgy.

Client Solutions architected the portal to allow external access via an invitation and registration process which again leveraged the available Microsoft Office 365 process. We modeled the data in an Azure SQL database using PaaS and surfaced it in SharePoint where it was called via Azure Functions. The solution required a series of complex structured business processes. We leveraged Microsoft’s cloud-based Power Automate workflow automation system to design and configure the workflow processes.

OUTCOME

Client Solutions designed and delivered the MyNaturgy.com enterprise customer data portal using the latest and most powerful cloud productivity technology from Microsoft.  Naturgy leveraged their investment in Microsoft 365, Azure workflow, Azure data services and Microsoft security solutions.
Naturgy customers can easily and securely access their most up to date data regarding energy usage and costs. In a completely secure environment customers can self-serve 24/7 and Naturgy can be assured that they are delivering excellent customer service through a modern, well-designed and easy to navigate customer portal.
